1st Gen Used Cooking Oil

Used cooking oil , also known as waste cooking oil, is a kind of recycled grease generated after food frying and cooking processes. As a sustainable waste-derived feedstock, it plays an important role in circular-economy-oriented bio-energy and oleochemical industries.

Primarily, used cooking oil is one of the major raw materials for manufacturing FAME biodiesel. Through transesterification, it can be converted into biodiesel blended with petroleum-based diesel for road vehicles, construction machinery and industrial boilers. It can also be processed via hydrotreatment to produce HVO renewable diesel and HEFA-based sustainable aviation fuel (SAF), helping cut greenhouse-gas emissions for transportation and aviation sectors.

Besides biofuel production, properly refined used cooking oil can serve as feedstock for oleochemical manufacturing. It can be hydrolyzed and fractionated to obtain fatty acids, glycerol and other intermediates, which are further made into surfactants, industrial lubricants, soap bases and other chemical products.

Under strict purification treatment, used cooking oil can be used for industrial heating as boiler fuel. It shall never flow back into the food chain. Recycling of used cooking oil turns waste into value, reduces waste disposal pressure and delivers remarkable environmental and economic benefits.
